LeadingAge California sponsored resolution, SJR 11 (DeSaulnier) Housing with Services passed out of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care with unanimous vote of 6-0. Committee Chair, Mariko Yamada (D-Davis) called the resolution a “no brainier,” saying that models that allow seniors to receive services in their homes is a real world solution.

Two LeadingAge CA members addressed the committee in support of SJR 11. Executive Director of Bethany Center in San Francisco, Jerry Brown, CASPF, spoke of their community’s diversity and how it reflected in their service programs, including Ruth’s Table.  Sylvia Karl, Senior Director of Affordable Housing at Episcopal Senior Communities talked of the importance of their service coordinator program, providing over 3,000 contacts of assistance in 2013. Representatives of the Congress of California Seniors and the California Senior Legislature also voiced their support.

The resolution will soon be heard on the Assembly floor.
