On May 24, 2013, CMS release an advanced copy of the “clarification” to Appendix P and Appendix PP for the regulations involving quality of care and unnecessary drugs. In addition to this guidance, CMS also released the third in a series of training videos with regard to improving dementia care. These releases are part of the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care and Reduce Unnecessary anti-psychotic Drug Use in Nursing Homes. The goal of the partnership is to optimize the quality of life and function of residents in America’s nursing homes by improving approaches to meeting the health, psycho-social and behavioral health needs of all residents, especially those with dementia.
