The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Survey and Certification Group has stated how it intends to adjust the Survey and Certification (S&C) process to meet the requirements of the sequestration. The overall S&C Medicare budget is reduced by 5 percent from the FY 2012 level, amounting to about $19 million.The sequestration cuts overall Medicare spending approximately 2 percent, so S&C is carrying a proportionally larger burden of the sequestration. As part of these adjustments, CMS is making available a “short form” Life Safety Code (LSC) Survey for nursing homes that have a consistently good track record of LSC compliance and are fully-sprinkled.
